The Cork Oak’s bark is visually dramatic on this hardy evergreen. It is also the age-old all-natural renewable resource for cork. The thick cork bark is harvested without harming the tree. This species grows very well in the regions of California where the climate is very similar to its native Mediterranean habitat.
Our seed stock is sourced from the massive cork oaks located on the campus of UC Davis and the grounds of Napa State Hospital.

Stately, large evergreen conifer with conical shape. Can reach 80′ in the landscape. Bluish-green needles and gently drooping branch ends. Native to Himalayas.

Ulmus panfolia

Chinese Elm is a medium sized tree with a resistance to Dutch Elm Disease. It has a handsome lacebark trunk and leathery deep green leaves. This tree is very hardy and is a good choice for harsh places like parking lots or as a street tree.

Also known as the Liquid Amber Tree, was named for its dramatically intense, beautiful fall color, amber to burgundy. Not appropriate for planting near sidewalks. This deciduous shade tree is a moderate to fast grower.

Quercus ilex

Holly Oak is a medium sized evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. The leathery leaves are dark green on the top and silvery on the back. It works great as a windbreak or as a tall hedge when planted in a row.
Washingtonia robusta

Also “Mexican Fan Palm.” These are fast growing and tall. They are native to the desert regions of Mexico and will grow with little care. They can withstand some freezing. They add a tropical feel to the garden.
Phyllostachys niger

Black Bamboo is a running style bamboo with canes to 20 feet tall and two inches in diameter. The culms or canes start out green and turn to a shiny jet-black in a few years time. It may be the most popular bamboo due to its feathery green leaves and awesome black canes. It makes a wonderful hedge if planted with a barrier so the runners don’t spread to unwanted areas such as your neighbor’s yard. The canes make great curtain rods.
Phyllostachys aurea

Fast growing running bamboo with golden canes and very interesting zigzag nodes. With proper containment it quickly fills in to make a terrific privacy hedge.

Clumping style of medium height. Fills-in to block view. The culms are golden with random green stripes in variable widths. The culms can take on a magenta cast when exposed to bright sunlight. Can be container-grown, even indoors in very good light.

Phyllostachys bambusoides

“Giant Japanese Timber” is a huge bamboo that will grow fine here. Our stand is at least 30 feet tall and the canes are up to four inches in diameter. It is a running style bamboo and is stunningly beautiful and well loved. It is used as a wood for building in other countries.

Rosemarinus officinalis

Rosemary is a popular perennial herb and landscaping plant. The small shrub doubles as a terrific evergreen plant with flowers to feed the bees in the winter months and is a culinary herb. It is somewhat drought tolerant and pest free. It is considered an easy-to-grow plant in pots or in the ground.
Aloysia triphylla

Lemon Verbena is a wonderful small deciduous shrub that is native to South America. It puts off a fabulous strong lemony scent and is great to use in drinks and cooking. It can handle our cold but drops its leaves below freezing. It is very easy to grow and the sweet aroma is one that most people really love. The leaves can be dried for year-round use.
Salvias
Biennial to short-lived perennial herb. Ours live 4 years on average. Popular culinary herb used traditionally with poultry or pork dishes, using either fresh-harvested or dried and crushed leaves. If let go, the plants will produce numerous sky-blue blooms in late spring. Pinching blooms results in higher quality leaves.
